Independent Studies Work Education

  1. This is an Independent Studies class - optional Office Hours are held every Wednesday during lunch in room A-14. You will need to come in periodically to turn in some assignments and paycheck stubs.
  2. You need to have a valid work permit on file and work at least 7-10 hours per week to be able to enroll in the Work Education class. You must submit your completed work permit application to the College and Career Center for processing and approval.  
  3. You must complete and turn in your Independent Studies Contract by the end of the second week of the term.
  4. All assignments are in Canvas and most assignments will be submitted through Canvas. You will need to submit your completed assignments by the due date on a weekly basis. 
  5. After three missed assignments, an evaluation will be made to determine if you should be dropped from Independent Studies Work Education.
  6. You are responsible for submitting an evaluation and/or training plan by your employer.
  7. You are responsible for turning in proof of employment in the form of paycheck stubs on a regular basis. If you are doing an internship, you are responsible for submitting hours on a regular basis (this must be pre-approved by Ms. Balaishis).
  8. You are encouraged to sign up for SBCC dual enrollment credit, however, you must be enrolled in Work Education for an entire semester. If you complete this along with your enrollment packet you will receive an extra 100 points.
  9. Paid Work Experience:
  • Must work at a job site where taxes are taken out
  • Must submit your paycheck stubs on a regular basis. You need to work at least 75 hours per term and 150 hours per semester. 
  1. Grading will be based on the completion of weekly assignments and necessary forms/paperwork for enrollment in Work Education.
