Culinary Arts

The Culinary Program was developed to provide students with practical life skills that can also be applied to a wide variety of positions in the foodservice industry or pursuit of a post-secondary educational focus.

The San Marcos Culinary Program offers several courses including: Introduction to Foodservice, and Principals of Baking. Introduction to Foodservice and Principals of Baking are dual enrollment courses that provide students with the opportunity to earn a combined 6 units of credit through the Santa Barbara City College School of Culinary Arts. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn their ServSafe® Food Handler certification, and learn about the history of cuisine.

The Culinary Program is led by Donna Barker. Ms. Barker worked with Santa Barbara City College School of Culinary Arts Department Chair Chef Randy Bublitz to develop the foundation for a rigorous and relevant career technical education pathway for students.

Several local businesses have already provided generous donations to the program, including: The Natural Cafe, il Fustino Oils & Vinegars, The Berry Man, Mission Linen, and Jordano’s Marketplace. Ms. Barker is continuing to work with and seek out additional local foodservice establishments to provide support for the program, and offer students summer internship and job opportunities to apply the skills they have learned
